I feel like there’s an ever-raging debate on the pros and cons of having a blogging schedule so I decided to weight in by explaining why I don’t have a blog schedule and why I have no plans to change to that.
A Little History of My Blogging
I started blogging in 2009 and to date I have only written 60 posts (this one would make 61). As you probably know, I recently changed the name of this blog from Christ the Center to Divine Discontent when I finally decided to self host my blog last month. My blog has always had one main focus, which is to explore and glorify Christ. That was the only reason started and to this day it is the only reason that I continue blogging. Sure, I have occasionally written about my personal life with my wife and interests in music and sports, but overall the main point of it all has been Jesus Christ and life in Him.
I’ve played with the idea of creating a blog schedule too many times to count. Whether the goal was write one really good post a week or even three a week, I considered it. I even tried implementing this once but I found that after about a week or so I had run out of anything of worth to say. So I eventually ditched the idea of a blog schedule altogether and decided that the best time to blog was when I had something good to say.
Why Not Just Find More to Write About?
As I stated above, the main focus of this blog has always been and always will be Jesus Christ and life in Him. Pretty much everything that I write about is directly inspired by what I’m currently reading and studying in the Bible or something I’ve read in a book that has been inspired by the Word and Holy Spirit. Quite frankly, I never want the Word of God to be a place that I go to for material or content. I feel the same way about well crafted sermons. The Word points us to Christ. The purpose of the Word is to point us to Christ. Yes, great teachings and writings are inspired by the Word but to truly understand that Word we have to receive revelation from the Spirit.
Schedules Are Good for Some, But Not Me
For me, blog schedules will never happen. There will be seasons where I’m writing often and seasons where I’ll be lucky to blog once every couple of weeks. I’m ok with this because my concern isn’t how much traffic this site gets so that my ego can be nurtured, it’s to glorify Jesus and for Him to be made bigger in my life as well as yours.
I think that depending on what your focus is, a blogging schedule can be very helpful. If you blog, do you have a schedule? What are some of the pros and cons you’ve discovered while blogging on a schedule?
